Preparation

When the guest list is finalized, take some time to:

  • Familiarize yourself with your guest’s background. Focus on their personal journey, not just their accomplishments.

  • Review the six key questions below, which will help guide the conversation and reveal the personal qualities that shaped their journey.

Pre-Interview Call

We’ll arrange a "coffee chat" with you and your guest to discuss logistics and any nuances of the conversation. This helps ensure both you and the guest feel comfortable and prepared for the interview and find some personal anecdotes to build upon.

The Interview

Opening the Interview

  • Start with a warm introduction:
“Hi, I’m (your name), and in this episode of Pathfinders, we welcome (guest name), a leader in the (community/industry) joining us from (location).”

  • After they respond, engage the guest with something personal or lighthearted to break the ice. For example…
“I hear you’re an avid hiker —maybe we’ll need another episode to talk about that!”

This helps create a friendly and relaxed environment before diving into the core questions.

The Six Key Questions

Your job starts by simply asking the following questions and engaging with the guest as they respond.

  1. Tell us about your industry and why it matters to the world.

    • This allows the guest to explain their industry’s broader impact.

  2. What is your background?

    • Encourage your guest to share their personal journey, including early influences and life experiences.

  3. Why are you passionate about this topic?

    • Dive into the motivations and passions that drive their work.

  4. What actions have you taken to do something about this passion?

    • Highlight the concrete steps they’ve taken to achieve their goals and make a difference.

  5. Tell us about the tenacity it takes to overcome challenges.

    • Ask them to share their struggles, resilience, and perseverance.

  6. How has this work humbled you?

    • Invite reflection on how their journey has shaped their perspective and brought humility.

Closing Question:
“Any final thoughts for the audience?”
This gives the guest an opportunity to leave a lasting message or piece of advice for listeners.

Closing the Interview

After the guest shares their final thoughts, ask:
“How can people connect with you if they want to learn more?”
This allows the guest to share contact information or promote their work.

Finally, close with:
“(Guest’s Name), thank you for being a Pathfinder.”
This reinforces the podcast’s theme and ends the conversation on a positive note.

Post-Interview Moment

Once the interview is closed and the guest is feeling more relaxed, ask them to look into the camera, smile and say:
“Hi, my name is (guest name), and I want to change the world through the use of (their industry) by (answer).”

This soundbite is perfect for promotional materials and social media clips.

Post-Recording

After the interview, your role as host is complete. We’ll handle editing, publishing, and promotion. You’ll receive a draft of the episode within two weeks for review.

All hosts and guests will sign a waiver, and sponsors may review the episode if applicable.

Tips for Success

  • Focus on the guest. Share your experiences when relevant, but keep the spotlight on the guest.

  • Be a Pathfinder. Lead with empathy, ask thoughtful questions, and explore the personal aspects of your guest’s journey.

  • Listen for depth. Pay attention when your guest shares their struggles—these are the moments that resonate most with listeners.

  • Create a comfortable space. Keep the conversation natural and flowing, more like a discussion than a formal interview.

  • Embrace imperfections. Life happens! Background noise or interruptions add authenticity to the conversation.

  • Have fun! The more you relax, the more your guest will too, turning the interview into a meaningful conversation.
